The Institute for Collective Trauma and Growth Becomes a NVOAD Member

Santa Barbara, California, May 26, 2016 – Institute for Congregational Trauma and Growth (ICTG) has been named an official member of National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD).

Founded in 1970, NVOAD is an association of 100+ organizations aimed at mitigating and alleviating the impact of disasters nationwide. The NVOAD is the primary point of contact for the National Response Coordination Center (at FEMA headquarters) and a part of the U.S. Government’s National Response Plan.

“Our new NVOAD membership will allow us to more effectively ‘coordinate, communicate, cooperate, and collaborate’ (NVOAD's 4 C's) with fellow member organizations dedicated to providing resources in support of emotional, spiritual, psychological care needs of communities impacted by disasters,” said the Institute's Executive Director Rev. Dr. Katherine Wiebe.

For recently appointed ICTG Senior Advisor for Congregations, FEMA, and VOAD Relations, Harvey Howell, greater network access to other disaster relief organizations and leaders is especially helpful. With the Institute's new member status, Harvey will be better positioned to connect faith leaders with FEMA and VOAD to establish long-term community care.

“As always, the Institute will continue to connect leaders with the information and tools they need to effectively care for communities after trauma, “ said Rev. Dr. Wiebe. “With a NVOAD membership, we can accomplish this mission in stronger partnership with NGO and faith-based organization leaders who share this passion for community-wide health.”
